A FibroScan® is a non-invasive scan that helps assess the health of your liver. It is a specialized ultrasound machine that measures fibrosis (scarring) and steatosis (fatty change) in your liver. Fatty change is when fat builds up in your liver cells.
Anyone who is at risk for fatty liver disease can benefit from the information a FibroScan® provides. NAFLD (nonalcoholic fatty liver disease) is found in 25% of adults in the US, of those, about 20% (5% of adults in the US) have NASH (nonalcoholic steatohepatitis). There isn’t any one known cause of NAFLD, but it has been linked to conditions like obesity, Type II diabetes, high blood pressure (hypertension), high cholesterol (hypercholesterolemia), and high triglycerides (hypertriglyceridemia).

- For reading to be accurate we require you come fasting for at least 3 hours prior to your appointment except for water.
- You should expect a non-invasive test. A probe will press against the skin near your rib cage and will measure fattiness and stiffness of the liver
- One of our in-house MD’s will give you a call to go over your results and findings. Results can also be forwarded to patient’s physician at request.
